2012 in review and looking ahead to 2013!!!

Hi everyone –

I can’t believe we’re already saying goodbye to 2012!  Yow! When I look back over the year, I try to stay focused on the positives, and there were plenty… 091012_0421_NightSeries2.jpg

Night Walker hit the shelves at Barnes & Noble stores, and also brought home some awards! Calisto & Kate brought home the San Diego Book Award for Best Published Fantasy-SciFi-Horror, and the Hearts Through History Best Paranormal & Best First Book.  Night Walker was also a finalist in the Book Seller’s Best contest for Best Paranormal and Best First Book…  Woot!!! 🙂

Over the summer, I signed with a super agent, Laurie McLean from Larson-Pomada, and she’s already sold some books for me!  Watch for the announcement soon…  Can’t wait to share the news!

On a personal note, Reno graduated from high school and started in the Music Dept. at Point Loma Nazarene University this Fall, and Panda has an audition coming up in January to tour and skate with Disney on Ice!  WOOT!!!

So 2013 is already looking like an exciting year ahead. I’m writing full time now, and hoping to have LOTS of new releases to share with all of you…

Also keep your eye out for my new website!!!  YAY!!!  We should be unveiling it right after Jan. 1st.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours!!!

Hi everyone!

I can’t believe Christmas is almost here already! This year flew by…

My kids started a tradition in our house of selecting a tree that might otherwise be homeless at Christmas. You’ve seen them at the Christmas tree farm with lopsided limbs, black spots in the middle, too thin, too thick. We imagine these poor little trees are often picked on and laughed at by the other perfectly manicured Christmas trees, and they worry they might never get to be a Christmas tree.

So we venture out to the tree farm and search out the homeliest of the trees and bring it home. You should see the way they look when we carry them to the truck. If a tree could smile, these trees are beaming! LOL

Here are some of our trees from Christmases Past… https://lisakessler.wordpress.com/2011/12/13/do-you-name-your-christmas-tree-more-author-bloghop-fun/

And now I’m proud to introduce this year’s tree… Skoodge! 🙂

He’s wider than he is tall, but that little tree looked SO happy leaving the tree farm! LOL

We had to give him a little boost up on a table at home, but please don’t tell him.

He thinks he’s a tall, majestic Christmas tree! Our angel was too big for him, so Panda added a Derby Hat… He looks pretty dapper, right? 🙂

In other news… I’m super excited that Night Thief has been nominated for Best Novella of 2012 over on Grave Tells Book Reviews!!! Please take a second and vote… It’s super quick and easy! 🙂

Thanks for all your support this year!!! Next year is going to be even bigger and better…. Can’t wait to share the news!!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Christmas Wishes BlogHop – Even more Holiday Goodies!!!

Hi Everyone –

I know, I know, I’m running two Blog Hops at once…

How cool is that, right?

I love the holidays and meeting new readers, and what better way than a fun Holiday Blog Hop, right?

So I have a kid story to share about wishes… My daughter (Who is 21 and has heard me tell this story many times) was asked this question for her elementary school newspaper: “If you ever caught a leprechaun, what would you wish for?”

Many of the kids asked for money, cars, video games, but my 6 year old daughter proudly wished for “A Shaved Ice Recipe”… LOL

The innocence of that wish always makes me smile, because so often we wish for money or a house or a car, something that will make us feel more secure instead of something that brings us joy. I love Christmas shopping because I love to find gifts for people I care about that weren’t on a list. I love to give them something that they didn’t even realize they wanted.

Books have always been a fun gift because you can introduce a new author to a friend or family member. I remember giving Panda her copy of The Phantom Tollbooth and watching her hesitantly open the cover. It’s still one of her favorite books of all time.

And my son, Reno, isn’t a big reader, but he was excited to get the newest book in the “Young Templar” series. He hadn’t even known the new one was out!

A gift doesn’t have to be expensive to bring someone JOY… I think that’s my favorite part of the season…

If you leave a comment and/or visit the rafflecopter link http://www.rafflecopter.com/rafl/display/d4a6093/

I have some holiday goodies to give away including a copy of my Christmas music CD – The Magic of Christmas.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and I’d love to hear some of your WISHES in the comments…

Entangled Under the Mistletoe Holiday BlogHop

Hi Everyone –

Who doesn’t like Mistletoe, right?

You can find other Entangled Authors who are

Participating in the Holiday Hop

Here

And while I can’t give away kisses under the mistletoe, I thought I’d share a few fictional kisses from my books… Ready?

Night Walker

He tugged off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. “Is that better?”

Kate nodded, no longer able to speak. His masculine scent surrounded her, and before she could stop herself, she pulled his coat so tight, the cold lining spread gooseflesh across her skin.

He slid the backs of his cool fingers down her cheek, his lips hinting at a smile. “Good.”

Kate tilted her chin up. When he bent and brushed his lips against hers, her breath caught. Her pulse raced and electricity shot through her veins. Her skin warmed. Had she ever wanted anyone this badly?

She brought her hand to his chest. His chiseled muscles responded to her touch, and a moan escaped her as he clutched her tighter. Calisto’s fingers slid through her hair, and her lips parted, her tongue tasting him, tangling with his until her knees buckled.

Dear God, this man could kiss.

Night Thief

She cleared her throat. “What do you know of Le Voleur D’or?”

He stepped in closer to her and kept his voice low. “I have been told she has golden hair and her beauty is so blinding that no one notices her pluck their wallets from their pockets. I also understand that she charms her victims until they no longer care that she has lightened their coin purses.”

He tipped his head down. The scent of her hair and the sound of her heartbeat enticed him. Kane ached to taste her. Such an unusual woman. He bit back his desire and whispered near her ear. “Is my description far from the truth?”

She met his gaze. The candlelight flickered in the clear sea-blue of her eyes. “Perhaps you were not charmed enough, Monsieur Bordeaux.”

“In my rush to find you, I was nearly run down by a coach.”

She glanced down at the watch in his hand, then met his gaze again. “You do cherish that watch.”

He bent closer to her, until his lips nearly brushed hers. “It was not the watch that I was after.”

Her eyes drifted closed and she whispered, “Was it for the honor of capturing Le Voleur D’or and having her arrested?”

“No.” His voice sounded husky, his throat tightening as her warm breath caressed his cool lips. “I have no desire to capture such a glorious thief.”

He kissed her before she could protest being called a thief. He half expected a slap, but instead, she hummed against his lips, matching his hunger with her own. Kane slid his hand up her back, crushing her against his chest. Every curve of her body set him on fire. No mortal had ever made him yearn for her touch.

Her hands explored his chest and moved along his shoulders. Before he realized what she was doing, the leather tie that bound his mane of blond hair fell to the floor. He groaned when her soft fingers slid through his hair. Every touch made him hunger for more.

Across the Veil

“I summoned you because Faldo paid me a visit last night. He threatened to send the sentinel to bring me back to Summerland unless I found you and placed this enchanted stone in your pocket. He said he would be able to track you in any world.”

Keth made no move to touch the stone. His gaze remained steady on her face.

“My jacket is in the car.”

Her eyes widened. “You don’t expect me to put this anywhere near you, do you?”

“If it means he will leave you alone to live your life in this world, then yes. Let him find me.”

“No.” Her hand closed around the stone. And she poked her finger against his chest. “You don’t get to make decisions for me anymore.”

Keth grabbed her hand with every intention of taking the stone from her, but once he touched her, and watched her lips part as she stared up at him, he found himself pulling her closer. When his lips claimed hers, she stiffened, but she didn’t pull away. His arms slid around her, pulling her closer to his chest as his tongue brushed against her lips. He growled into the kiss when her lips parted and he finally tasted her again. His entire body reacted, his pulse racing while her hands slid up his chest and into his long dark hair.

How many years had he longed for this moment, for another chance to love this woman? Too many. Breathless, he whispered as he kissed her over and over again, “Sainmhíniú. Curse me from the Light, I cannot stop loving you.”

Hope you enjoyed the kisses!!! 🙂

So what are your favorite movie Holiday kisses? I think my favorite is in Love Actually when the Prime Minister and his aide finally get their first kiss and the curtain opens leaving them center stage in the elementary school Christmas Play! 🙂

If you leave a comment and/or click on the Rafflecopter link, you can enter to win some Christmas Goodies from me including a copy of my Christmas CD – The Magic of Christmas…

Whatever holiday you celebrate this year, I hope you enjoy lots of love and laughter!!!

The Next Big Thing – Night Demon

Hi Everyone –

I’ve been tagged by a few authors for The Next Big Thing, and I had a blast posting it once before for my book You Slay Me so I thought I’d play again with Night Demon this time! J

Thanks to Terry Ambrose, Samanthe Beck and Astrea Baldwin for tagging me again! J

So here we go…

What is your working title of your book (or story)? – Night Demon (Book 2 in the Night Series)

Where did the idea come from for the book? – When I was writing Night Walker
I knew there was much more to the story that my hero, Calisto, didn’t know. When I finished writing Night Walker, I started on Night Demon right away because I couldn’t wait to see what Lukas had learned about the Night Walker race.

What genre does your book fall under? – Dark Paranormal Romance

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? – As I wrote the book, my hero, Lukas, was definitely Goran Visnjic. And Gretchen was a young redheaded Nicole Kidman. I posted lots of pictures on Night Demon Pinterest board… J

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? – A Mayan demon has been unleashed and the fate of humanity rests on the shoulders of the Night Walkers to stop her, but only love will save the immortals from extinction.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? – It’s already contracted from Entangled Publishing. It should be available in the Spring… J

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? – Six months.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? – Hmmm… Maybe like Queen of the Damned, but a romance takes center stage.

Who or what inspired you to write this book? – This book was really inspired by all the research I did for Night Walker that never made it into the book! LOL While building my Night Walker world I researched and even took a trip to the Yucatan and hiked the pyramid at Chichen Itza. I could really relate to my hero, Lukas, researching and yearning to make connections. So once Night Walker was finished, Night Demon felt like I needed to write it. I really fell in love with the book and the jungle setting… J

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? – How about a tiny sneak peek?

With his arms outstretched, his palms and face turned up toward the storm, toward the heavens, the Guardian stood at the top of the pyramid at Chichen Itza and closed his eyes. Hot rain pummeled his skin. Lightning flashed through the sky, casting his shadow down the steep stone steps, but his attention was focused elsewhere, far from the Yucatan jungle, across the seas and around the globe.

His silent mental call reached out, searching for the four immortal brothers, his makers. The Night Walker gods of the North, South, East and West would now hear his summons. They would know that the Demon awoke from her slumber and ached for freedom from her prison within the earth.

For hours, until the stars dimmed and the sky lightened, he stood motionless, a stone sentinel to protect the mortal world from the evil that hungered and thirsted. The immortal brothers would answer the call.

They would answer, or the mortal world was doomed.

If you enjoy vampire romances, I hope you’ll give the Night Series a try…

Since I already tagged authors on my last Next Big Thing, I’ll leave the invitation open… If you’re working on a new project, tell us about it! J (And let me know so I can come read it! LOL)

I can’t wait to share Night Demon with you!!!

News, Sneak Peek & Holiday Fun!

Hi everyone –

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! We had way too much turkey and pie, but it was wonderful to have both my kids back home… I’m still not used to Reno being gone at college!

Since then, I’ve been chaining myself to the keyboard to finish You Slay Me. If you follow me on twitter and/or facebook, you’ve probably heard me talk about this book, but it’s been a blast to write so far. I’m in the home stretch now to get it turned in before my Night Demon edits hit. Shew!

And I have news! J

Night Thief is up for Book of the Month at GraveTells reviews!!! Kane would love some votes! J
http://gravetells.com/2012/11/27/november-2012-readers-choice-awards-vote-here/ The voting is open until Friday, so I’ll keep you posted with the results…

Looking ahead, next week I’ll be posting “The Next Big Thing” with insider information on my upcoming release, Night Demon! J

I’m also going to be participating in two December blog hops with lots of fun prizes, so stay tuned!

So, are you interested in a sneak peek into You Slay Me? Want to meet Gabe? He’s a private eye/demon slayer. If you love Buffy & Supernatural like I do, I think you’re going to have a blast with this book… 🙂

Here’s a little snippet…

Suddenly the large door burst open. Tegan shot up from her seat, her feet instinctively hitting a fighting stance. A tall man with broad shoulders, brown hair, and dark glasses blew through the narthex toward the chapel area. His features were striking even though she couldn’t see his eyes. The strong angle of his jaw and the way his hair brushed the collar of his black coat without looking disheveled made her pulse jump a little.

For some reason she had pictured him being older.

“Martie is my five o’clock here yet?” His voice was deep and a little hoarse. Rough.

The stapling came to an abrupt halt, and Martie pointed a red, perfectly-manicured finger. “That’s her.”

He spun around and tipped his head, peering at Tegan from over his sunglasses. “You’re Megan?”

His light green eyes almost made her forget her own name. “It’s Tegan. Like Megan with a T. Tegan Ashton.”

He held out a large hand. She stared at it for a second; reminding herself this was a business meeting, nothing more. Other than her karate classes, she hadn’t touched a man, not since the attack.

I won’t be a victim. I’m not a victim.

She forced herself to place her hand inside of his, and he squeezed giving her a firm handshake. “Nice to meet you. I’m Gabe.” She tried not to notice the way his fingers brushed her wrist, sliding across her palm as he released her. Pressing her lips together, she reminded herself to breathe. She’d forgotten how good a simple touch could feel. “Come on back.”

Thanks for stopping by the blog! And thanks for your support!!! (And votes! LOL)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone –

It’s been a crazy year for me, full of ups and downs and LOTS of changes, but through it all, my family and friends have made me feel lucky and blessed every day.

With so many distractions and commitments, it’s easy to get so busy you can’t take a breath. (Or at least I get that way! Ask poor Ken every time I plan a “vacation”… LOL) But for a few days this week, I’m making a conscious effort to be grateful for the people in my life. My house, cars, shoes, gadgets, they’re all just things. It’s the people that make life bright.

So thank you for coming by my blogs. Every comment you leave makes me smile.

Thank you to all my readers out there!!! Your emails, comments, reviews, and excitement for my stories always inspire me to keep at the keyboard! *typetypetype* Hearing from you and knowing you’re excited for the next book is the best gift a writer could ever wish for…

Thank you to my wonderful hubby who has always got my back through thick and thin. His belief in me and his support make all the difference.

And to my two fabulous kids who are both becoming amazing adults, I’m proud and grateful every single day to be your Mom…

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

From my family to yours, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!!!
